Clare came to see me complaining of pain over her episiotomy scar since the delivery of her son 5 months earlier.
During her assessment she explained that she had suffered an infection after coming home from hospital that had required antibiotics to heal and had never felt ‘quite right’ since. While it had slowly been improving, its was still causing discomfort and she was unable to resume any sort of intimacy with her partner due to the pain, (and fear of pain). It was very sensitive to touch and was affecting her ability to get out and about and resume exercise which began to get her down.
She was treated with scar tissue massage which she could practice herself at home, and a course of therapeutic ultrasound treatment. After 8 sessions she was completely pain free and able to concentrate on pelvic floor strengthening, getting back to her normal lifestyle, returning to exercise and normal relations with her partner.
Clare says:
‘No one ever told me that having after having a baby things wouldn’t just go back to normal immediately. I thought I was going to have to live with this pain, and this was it. I really can’t believe that I have no pain at all now. It was so reassuring to know that I’m not the only one and that I would get better. Now I can just enjoy my son.’
